There’s one thing in favour of cooler September weather, after our amazing summer months – it makes for better walking between our villages, and there are some new signs up to encourage you on your way along some lovely public footpaths!
At Kettlethorpe on September 20th there will be this summer’s second Social Event in the Rectory garden with live band “Out of the Storm” and singer Helen Kirk. bring your own picnic from 5pm, pre-ordered tickets £6 (limited to 75 in case of bad weather and a need to relocate to the Village Hall) from Chris Fowler on 07557 918505.
Meanwhile this year’s abundant fruit harvest is loading down hedges and trees, making us look forward to Harvest Festival. This will be extra special at St Peter and St Paul’s Kettlethorpe this year – after our 9am service and Festival breakfast (with bacon butties!) on October 12th, we are having a Produce and Preserves Bring and Buy Sale in aid of the church. Do put the date in your diary, and if you can also bring some dry foods for the Gainsborough Food Bank that would be hugely appreciated.
At St Peter and St Paul the Michael Bubleˊ Tribute Act, including “Songs through the Ages”, has been rescheduled to November 21st to allow for other commitments, and will include a special Christmas finale. Tickets (to include posh nibbles, with wine bar) £10 from Barbara Gilbert (gilberts666@btinternet.com).
How do WI ladies cope when plans go awry? We communicate, adapt and create! We learned on the morning of our August meeting that Debbie Davidson, our speaker, had been admitted to hospital overnight. We wish Debbie all the best and a speedy recovery. Debbie was going to share information about hedgehogs and the Andrew Hedgehog hospital.
However we had a lovely afternoon finding out more about hedgehogs ourselves, with a hedgehog quiz followed by always welcome social time. Our quiz winners were the ‘The Crafty Bunch’ – Shelley Howard, Mavis Hutchinson, Linda Watling and Rosemary Procter. Our monthly competition winner on the subject of ‘hedgehogs’ was Nancy Price.
Looking forward, the next meeting on September 16th is titled “The Medieval Housewife’. This should be a fascinating insight into how we have all managed to communicate, adapt and create over the centuries. The competition is ‘an apron’. If you are interested in joining us at Kettlethorpe and District WI, please call Moira Watt on 01427 718737. >
At July’s meeting we will be continuing the plant theme, welcoming Clare Ella who will be talking about aromatherapy and essential oils. The competition for Members is to produce a special scent bottle. If you are interested in joining us at Kettlethorpe and District WI please call Moira Watts on 01427 718737.
Meanwhile there is a new walk open around Kettlethorpe, thanks to Charlotte Hogg, with a bench to rest on at the top of the field from which you get a lovely view of the village. Updated maps of walks are available at St Peter and St Paul’s, where you can also find a guide to the trees in the churchyard.
While there it would be lovely if you could leave something for the Gainsborough food bank – we are still collecting because contributions tend to drop off in summer but the need is still great.
