After an intrepid crowd turned up at St Peter and St Paul in driving sleet for our Winter Walk and Talk on February 15th (no one was looking if they took themselves home after Alison Brownlow’s excellent talk and a nice piece of cake!), March brings us “official” spring, and early daffodils and crocuses are pushing their way through the snowdrops in Kettlethorpe churchyard.
Halfway through the month we have Mothering Sunday to look forward to – come to our 9am service on March 15th at St Peter and St Paul when there with be our special posies for mothers, grandmothers and indeed everybody! And at the end of Easter week there will be a special concert by the Lincoln Male Voice Choir at 7pm for 7.30pm on Friday April 10th in St Peter and St Paul’s – £10 to include refreshments, with a wine bar available Tickets are already selling well – contact gilberts666@btinternet.com
Members of the Kettlethorpe and District WI are always well-prepared for Easter, and are busy creating Easter bonnets, which will be displayed and judged at their March meeting. This will be on March 17th, when the AGM takes place, which will review the year’s interests and remind us how active our WI has been. The total reached for our charity of the year, Macmillan Nurses, will be revealed and Jane Hall, representing the charity, will receive the cheque and tell us some more about the charity.
Maria Scott was our speaker in February, showing slides about the history of the original Knights Hospitaller, who founded St John’s Hospital in Jerusalem in the 11th century and were the inspiration for the creation of the St John’s Ambulance Service in the 19th century. The Knights Hospitaller and their martial partners the Knights Templar had much history in Lincolnshire, with Temple Bruer providing the strongest evidence, and the volunteers of the modern St John Ambulance Service are a familiar sight at events throughout the county. Our monthly competition winner was Sharon Mosedale – subject, a first aid book.
