Lots of summer news from Kettlethorpe, Laughterton and Fenton!

Tickerts are selling fast for the talk at St Peter and St Paul’s on June 13th on Kettlethorpe Hall, Building on the Past, by Steve Sacks and his builder Terry Donovan. T

hey will describe the daunting task of sensitively updating this historic house, which goes back to Katherine Swynford’s time, and after the talk there will be a Strawberry Cream Tea in the Hall gardens. Tickets for talk and tea are available at £15 (in aid of the restoration of the church porch) from Barbara Gilbert (gilberts666@btinternet.com) or Ann Lister (listerann@hotmail.co.uk).

The Reverent Jane Foster-Smith extends a special welcome to everyone for the Patronal Feast of St Peter and St Paul on Sunday June 28th, when the 9am service for the community will be followed by Buck’s Fizz and cakes! (There will be a Big Patronal Polish’n’Scrub of the church at 9am on Friday 26th and anyone with a free hour will be extremely welcome!!!)

On July 25th, more exciting news: we are definitely aiming to revive an old tradition with a Family Cricket Afternoon in one of the fields at Kettlethorpe, starting at 2pm.  Would anyone wishing to take part WhatsApp or message Jamie Kyme on 09747 585422 or email Sarah Hogg on semhogg@icloud.com.  Open to everyone of all abilities and none, age 14 and over, male and female.

The Kettlethorpe & District WI enjoyed an excellent talk in May by Elaine Johnson on Beatrix Potter, or Mrs Heelis as she became.

This provided particularly illuminating detail not just on Beatrice’s successful career as a children’s author and illustrator but also on her work as a naturalist, and her contribution to the protection of the Lake District, where she spent holidays as a child and lived and farmed in later life, .

In June the WI will be enjoying a garden visit to Aubourn Hall, and on July 21st June Fray will be giving a talk on Sustainable Floristry (with a competition for members for the most beautiful single bloom).(If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Moira Watt at 01427718737.)
