It’s been a busy June in our villages, including a successful fundraiser for the church involving a talk on the restoration of Kettlethorpe Hall (and strawberry tea) and other great events. Particular thanks to all who came to the Polish ’n Scrub morning at Kettlethorpe church before its lovely Patronal Feast at the end of June. The results were wonderful.
Now all your energies are needed for the Cricketing Afternoon on July 25th. Please do volunteer by getting in touch with Jamie Kyme on 07947 585422. NO ability expected. Much effort has gone into creating something of a cricket pitch (but don’t expect Lords!) so we can revive an old tradition Everyone welcome, bring your own picnic (strictly NO alcohol) and there will be a raffle for the church.
After a well-attended BYO Garden Picnic at the Old Rectory in June, providing another donation to the village hall, a further similar event is planned for August 22nd featuring ‘Soul Sisters’ with a 40s/50s dress code. Gates will be open from 5.30 (weather permitting!), contact fowlerchris46@gmail.com for tickets.
On June 16th the Kettlethorpe & District WI members were shown round the 12-acre garden at Aubourn Hall, completing the afternoon with tea and cake at the Hall. It was an informative and lovely afternoon enjoyed by all. Continuing the garden theme, at the July WI meeting the speaker’s subject is ‘Sustainable Floristry’. The Trentside WI’s have all been invited to this meeting, and we look forward to floral designs favouring local sourcing, seasonal flowers and more! The competition is a single bloom.
The WI is part of a welcoming community with a variety of activities to enjoy. In July the craft group subject is Japanese braiding – always something new to explore!
