News from Kettlethorpe, Laughterton and Fenton

February started in Kettlethorpe with our lovely Woodland Walk with Snowdrops on Sunday 4th and the lengthening days make possible all sorts of shorter walks around the field tracks by the village, starting at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, which is always open during daylight hours.

On March 10th, at our Mother’s Day Service at 9am, there will be spring posies for all mothers (including of course grandmothers!!!) and treats for the children.  Then on Easter Sunday (March 31st) there will be Hot Cross Buns and an Easter Egg Hunt outside the church after the 9am service, especially for children (but don’t worry, adults can have a go too…)

TheKatherine Swynford Study Day is at Kettlethorpe Church on Saturday May 11th organised by the Katherine Swynford Society.

There will be three talks on John of Gaunt’s buildings, Katherine’s life at Kettlethorpe, and her royal descendants, at the church, with morning coffee, lunch at the Village Hall, tea and an opportunity to walk around the gardens at Kettlethorpe Hall to conclude the day.

Tickets including morning coffee, lunch and tea (strictly limited in number) for the day are available at £35 for KSS members or £45 for non-members by email (a.karyn@ntlworld.com) or by calling 07732 559 587 or 07933 353 649).

May 18th-19th the church will be open with refreshments for the Open Churches Weekend.  Guides to our church are available and an exhibition on Katherine’s life.

For Kettlethorpe’s thriving WI, 2024 began on January 16th with an interesting talk by Sarah Hogg  the author of the book Katherine’s House. We welcomed the author to our meeting and she spoke to us about her book and the royal descendants of Katherine Swynford. We also welcomed two local ladies and three visitors from Sturton WI, and held a competition of wonderful old family photographs. Our Craft Group met inJanuary to plan this year’s activities, after which members enjoyed tea and cakes made in an Air Fryer.

If you are interested in joining us, come along to next month’s meeting at Kettlethorpe Village Hall on February 20th at 2.30pm, when Rebecca Andrews will be telling us about Culinary Disasters!
